The AAU James E. Sullivan Award

A business consultant in Dallas, Texas, Randall “Randy” Blum is the president and CEO of his consulting firm, advising Fortune 500 corporations on managing millennial human resources. Outside of the professional arena, Randall Blum volunteers as a sports official through the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).

One of the world’s largest multi-sport event nonprofits, the AAU supports physical fitness and amateur athletics through a broad spectrum of programs and initiatives. Since 1930, AAU has identified and honored the best athlete in the United States with its James E. Sullivan Award.

The AAU named this award after its founder and past president, James E. Sullivan. In addition to recognizing outstanding athletic accomplishments, the Sullivan Award assesses candidates on their leadership abilities, dedication to sportsmanship, and general moral character.

Past winners of the Sullivan Award range from Wilma Rudolph to Michael Phelps. In December 2022, Olympic gold medalist Carissa Moore took home the 92nd Sullivan Award. She was the first surfer and Hawaiian native to receive this honor.
