Doctors Without Borders Offers Humanitarian Medical Aid Globally

A University of Northern Iowa alumnus, Randall “Randy” Blum is the founder and CEO of Insight Consulting Group, a millennial workforce consulting firm. Randall Blum is passionate about community involvement and contributes to several organizations, including Doctors without Borders, commonly referred to as Medecins Sans Frontieres (MRF).

Founded in 1971, MSF has grown from a group of only 13 doctors and journalists to more than 45,000 and has attended to tens of millions worldwide. MSF aims to provide humanitarian medical support to people who need it most, regardless of location, based solely on need.

The doctors, nurses, and other frontline workers attend to people caught up in conflicts, natural and man-made catastrophes, and disease outbreaks. MSF is recognized for the high level of medical ethics in their service provision, including impartiality, confidentiality, informed consent, and respect for rights to dignity and diversity. The team members come from 169 nationalities spread over 70 countries worldwide. To join the team, MRF undertakes regular recruitment drives.

Known as Recruitment Information Sessions, the recruitment drives happen in different cities across the United States and the other 70 countries where MRF has a presence. The event welcomes all prospective medical and non-medical aid workers for a presentation and Q&A session.

The primary agenda is to learn how to become part of MRF’s fieldwork team, with human resources officers guiding the attendees on the requirements and recruitment process. An MRF representative from the local area also shares stories and case studies about the fieldwork experiences.
